Position Summary: The Church Pianist works with the Minister of Music in playing the piano for designated worship services and other services as needed for Rice Memorial Baptist Church.

Job Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Be a disciple of Jesus Christ, committed to growing in faith through practicing the spiritual disciplines of prayer, scripture study, worship participation, and service at and beyond Rice Memorial Baptist Church.
  • Have experience in church worship with both piano and other instruments in a blended worship style.
  • Be able to play a variety of musical styles, including but not limited to traditional and contemporary music.
  • Possess knowledge and ability of the piano and keyboards sufficient to play hymns, songs, and anthem accompaniments.
  • Have ability to sight-read and improvise (desired).
  • Have ability to accompany groups and individuals.
  • Have ability to perform simple transpositions and or harmonization’s.
  • Be available to rehearse sufficiently to maintain a high quality of music.
  • Serve as accompanist for the sanctuary choir in regular and special rehearsals and performances as assigned.
  • Facilitate congregational singing and worship though the excellent execution of hymns and other songs.
  • Be a part of a praise band, attending its rehearsals and performing with other players.
  • Plan, select, and prepare preludes, postludes, and offertories, according to the needs of the worship services.
  • Serve as accompanist for other choirs, ensembles, and soloist when needed.
  • Play for weddings and funerals as requested upon availability, being permitted to receive additional compensation from the parties involved.
  • Instruct others in the craft and ministry of becoming a church musician as appropriate to the needs of the church and interest of others in learning to play the piano/keyboard.
  • Maintain an accurate account of piano and keyboard needs and maintenance and notify Minister of Music when absence is necessary.
  • Be able to take direction and work as a team member.
  • Address conflicts and complaints as appropriate to the individual(s) first, then to the Minister of Music, and then to the Senior Pastor, if necessary.


  • Possess a high degree of competence on piano and keyboards and the ability to accompany groups and individuals.
  • Have at least 5 years training and previous experience in playing piano/keyboard church music.
  • Have a knowledge of basic music theory and ability to perform simple transpositions and/or harmonization.
  • Be able to ready music effectively, including piano accompaniment and chord playing.
  • Be able to sight-read music.
  • Be able to play multiple vocal parts individually and collectively.

Part-Time Worship Leader


The Worship Leader will be responsible for worship and audio visual teams. This will require someone who can recruit, equip, and empower volunteer leaders to help carry out the functions of the worship/AV teams. We are looking for someone who can: 

  • Lead Worship in both 8:30 A.M. and 10:45 A.M. worship services.
  • Plan worship services well in advance in conjunction with the preaching calendar and Lead Pastor.
  • Develop and equip worship and AV teams to succeed and grow.
  • Communicate clearly with the congregation from the stage, as well as the teams that they lead. (“a people person.”) 


  1. Must have a clear profession of faith in Jesus Christ. 
  2. Must be in agreement with the Baptist Faith & Message 2000. 
  3. Must be trustworthy and maintain confidentiality at all times. 
  4. Maintain regular rhythms of Bible study, prayer, serving, and financial giving.
  5. Must be committed to sharing the gospel with those who do not know Christ.
  6. A Bachelor Degree is required. A degree in music is preferred.
  7. Must be skilled in playing an instrument (preferably guitar) and singing together.
  8. Must be comfortable with using Planning Center Online and Pro Presenter applications for worship planning/presentation. 
  9. Must be comfortable with reading, editing, and creating chord charts as needed.
  10. Prior worship leadership experience is required. 
  11. Knowledge of backline equipment (cables, worship equipment, amps, DI boxes, etc.) is preferred.  
  12. Must pass a background check through US-One Verify.

1.    Lead worship each week for the 8:30 A.M. and 10:45 A.M. services.

2.    Conduct two weekly rehearsals on Wednesday evening and Sunday morning before the first service.

3.    Oversee and manage all presentation needs for each weekly worship service. This includes putting all slides, pictures, and other visuals in Pro Presenter for the worship service.

4.    Collaborate with Lead Pastor to plan services at least 3 weeks in advance, as well as scheduling volunteers in well in advance.

5.    Oversee, schedule, train, and recruit volunteers for the worship team and audio/visual ministry teams.

6.    Regularly meet with both worship and AV ministry teams (for prayer and planning).

7.    Regularly attend a Sunday Morning Bible Study (in between services).

8.    Build intentional/disciple making relationships with members of the worship team and AV team.

9.    Continually learn and improve through reading, studying, conferences, workshops, and continuing education.

  2. Relational-Working well with people on your team and connecting with the congregation on a personal level.
  3. Organized-Planning ahead and refusing to procrastinate.
  4. Musical Excellence-Continuing to improve and become a better musician both instrumentally and vocally.
  5. Tech-Savvy-Possessing a solid knowledge of the technical equipment on the stage and in the sound booth. 
  6. Initiative-Being a self-starter who doesn’t need to be micromanaged. 
  7. Problem Solver-Resolving issues as they come up and the willingness to trouble shoot/research issues when fixing a problem is difficult.
